Pencil thin, smart and sexy looking.

The new Nuvi is less than 9mm thick and has the most sophisticated personal navigation software ever placed in a Nuvi product.

“Sleek and stylish” is what everyone is saying about the new Nuvi 3790T. Enhanced with full-coverage mapping for the US, Canada, and Mexico, this is the first Nuvi to include nuRoute technology with trafficTrends and myTrends. These new features offer you a uniquely personal navigation experience.

Looking more like an iPhone4 than a GPS, this amazing navigation unit offers multi-touch capabilities that go beyond simple pinch-to-zoom. In fact, there are 10 convenient multi-touch commands which make your navigation experience even better. And just like an iPhone, you can turn it horizontal or vertical, whichever is more convent for you.

Convenience seems to be Garmin’s theme to this model because every feature it offers you makes your life easier. The only thing that would make this model better is to make it voice activated and guess what… they added voice-activated navigation so this IS the perfect GPS. All you need to do is tell it where you want to go (great hands free feature) and off you go! Sounding more like Star Trek, you can give the new Nuvi a name and it will recognize when you are talking to it. A fun little feature they added is an impersonator feature. Record someone’s voice and it will give you all your directions using their voice! How cool is that?

With an award-winning design, this is truly the most amazing GPS we’ve ever come across. Thin without compromising performance or feature, this is truly a very attractive piece of technology.

With Christmas just around the corner, now is one of the best time to buy the little toys and gadgets that adults love so much. Depending on where you live, Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) has some of the best deals whereas in the US the day after Thanksgiving has the best deals. Regardless of where you live though, now is the best time to ask Santa for a Garmin GPS!

A strole through any electronics store prove to you that at this time of year, great deals are to be had. Vast displays and flashy advertisements catch your eye everywhere you look. In a recent trip to Costco (ok, not an electronics store but any store that sells fun gadgets will do), I found row after row of various products on sale. One aisle in particular had a number of Garmin products on sale. Sadly, one of them was the one I have in my truck right now.. at a much better price.

On a side note… if you purchase something and find it later on sale somewhere else, quite often you can get a partial refund. Stores such as Best Buy have a 30 guarantee, but some are even longer. All you need to do is bring in proof of the sale or lower price, plus your original receipt, and more customer service departments will refund the difference (occassionally they will even give you an extra 10% of what the difference is). If you are like me and you purchased all your gifts weeks ago (ok maybe you aren’t…. most of the people I know are last minute shoppers), there are tons of sales going on, especially as Christmas gets closer. If you happen to see last minute sales you may or may not be able to get money refunded to you. Be sure to check what the return policies are from the place you shop at. Some stores won’t let you do returns until after Boxing Day (some even January 1).

Happy shopping and Merry Christmas

After researching Garmin GPS models (as well as many other types like TomTom, etc) I finally decided to go for it and replace my old gps.

For the past few years I have been using a GPS made by Harman Kardon (yes, the speaker maker). At the time it was a great model but seriously overpriced. I paid over $600 (other GPS manufacturers were charging around $350) for it but it was worth it because it played music and videos, and this was back when the iPad/iPod/etc. weren’t around so small mobile video players were almost impossible to find. Eventually it stopped working correctly because the power plug in the side broke and I couldn’t use it anymore. It’s been a tough few months using my iPhone as a GPS.

So, after doing a lot of research for this website I finally found a GPS that I love… the Garmin Nuvi 255w.

I was extremely impressed right out of the box. I plugged it in, powered it up and almost right away it calculated my current position. The bright screen with brilliant colors was very nice and easy to read, even in direct sunlight. Even my wife commented on the colors and she was looking at it from an angle. I know this reads like a sales pitch but I was so impressed I felt I had to make a post about it.

We tested the Garmin Nuvi 255w by taking a short trip across a few nearby cities so we could go hiking (which we love to do). After using an older GPS for so many years it was great to see all the improvements that have been made. Most notably for us was the turn by turn verbal directions. Hearing the Garmin Nuvi 255w call out the upcoming streets and turns made is a lot easier to travel and we barely had to look away from the road the entire time.

While the Garmin Nuvi 255w is made strictly for road travel, we unplugged it and brought it on the trails and were amazed how easily it tracked our every step. We also brought it a few days later on a trip to Canada and it was a life saver! Both by car and by foot it was fantastic having it in Toronto while we navigated through numerous streets, and the rechargeable lithium-ion battery kept it going long after we were finished.

You don’t have to take my word for it. Over 3000 Amazon customer reviews.

My final thoughts.. the Garmin Nuvi 255w is an affordable GPS with an amazing bright color widescreen that is a pleasure to use. With millions of destinations and maps covering North America AND Europe, you can’t go wrong with this model.
